Nice article Antonio! I do agree it has gotten a lot more competitive for entry level designers. Let me add a few quick tips…

I think because of the competitive nature, it’s super important to network and try to meet Designers at this company. The best way is to attend any design networking events or talks with professional designers, then connect with them afterwards. Digital networking is harder, but is can really help you break into a competitive market if you don’t have access to in-person events. A really great way of doing that is to use LinkedIn (shameless plug), especially if you don’t have access to meet these people in person.

Lastly, the value of a referral at a company goes a long way and really helps you stand apart from the hundreds of others that you may be competing with. Networking with designers and forming these relationships help with referrals.

I’ve given a talk before with Sheba Najmi (another LinkedIn manager) on how to use LinkedIn to help you with your design career and also do these talks regularly! Here’s a video of one of our talks. https://www.facebook.com/justinmindprototypingtool/videos/1478584672272739/
